Summary OF TB
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that typically affects the lungs but may infect any other organ of the body. TB can only be passed from person to person when someone with active TB of the lungs coughs, sings, laughs or sneezes. People who are young or elderly or who have weakened immune systems are more prone to active infection. The number of people who get TB in First-world countries is low and it can be effectively treated with medications.
Cause/Impacts Of TB
TB is spread through an active disease at the upper airways of lungs. This causes the victim to cough, sing, laugh and sneeze. People nearby may inhale the disease and become infected themselves, the bacteria settles in lungs and grows from there. The disease then moves through the blood system infecting the kidney, spine and brain.
The disease can only spread through lung infection. The other parts of the body are not infectious to TB. People can also have latent(sleeping) TB and cannot pass the disease on to others. Also a mother with an untreated active disease can pass the disease to the baby before or during childbirth although it is very rare.
